Hi. As this is my first post, let me warn you that I am not particularly technologically proficient. All I know is that I have been playing minecraft for almost a year with no problems. Yesterday, java updated and now minecraft will not work.
What happens when I click the launcher is that the minecraft program starts, but it doesn't load any update information. Instead, the screen is stuck telling me that it's loading the update news. When I try to log on, it can not log on. It just stays stuck saying its "loggin on."
I am running Windows Vista Business, if that's any help, and up until yesterday I have never had any problems with minecraft. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Ok so I did some research, and found out how to take a snapshott, but I am not seeing any function which would allow me to upload it. Which button non the editor is it?
I did look at it, but the solution seems to assume that the user is using a 64 bit ssystem, when according to my system profile, I'm only using a 32 bit system, and there is no advice for what to do if the system is 32 bits.

So, after reading through some posts, I found that I could try to make the game work through several other methods.
I tried loggin in from the site and playing it there, but the java plugin would not load.
I downloaded MinecraftDev, but that refused to download. In ten retries, the answer I got was the same each time "Exception: java.net.Sockettimeoutexception: connection timed out.
Ok so, lacking anymore ideas, I uninstalled the latest update java 7, up 25. Now things are back to normal, both when using the launcher and on the site. Also, the new 1.6 was willing to download.
Definitely the new java update. I'm amazed no one else had that problem. But this presents a new problem. What can I do when I need a new java update?

You had more than one Java version on the machine?

Retired StaffIt applies to both 32-bit and 64-bit Java.
Update: I have tried both methods he advocated and neither is working. I don't know what to do.

According to my Add/Remove programs icon, yes. One is Java 6, ver 25, the other was Java 7, ver 25. I got rid of 7. six is still working.
