Ok.. so, I haven't really seen anyone else with a problem like mine (but if there is a thread already, I'd really appreciate the link), but here goes:
I haven't been able to get minecraft to work for the longest time. I reinstalled java over a dozen times, used every "fix it" program for java over and over, even edited my registry to get rid of old corrupted java installs (under the supervision of someone who knew what they were doing, of course).
The problem used to be that if I tried to open minecraft.exe, I would get a tremendous lag spike, then the java icon would pop up. Some frustrating tweaking later (and I honestly don't know what I did), opening Minecraft.exe will open the launcher window, but it looks like this:
I can't type in any login information, it's just a frozen window. This is accompanied by a lag spike as well. When I take a look at my processes in Task Manager, Java Platform SE Binary isn't even using that much memory, but that's beside the point I suppose.
I downloaded that minecraft error test (from here), and that opened minecraft, skipped the login, which gave me a bad login error. Java 32bit shows up, java 64bit (which is what I need) does not. Both are installed, both are Java 7 Update 25.
I'm truly at a loss at what to do, and would truly appreciate a solution to this or even a point in the right direction. The browser version works, but then I just get lag spikes (like, 300 fps to 0 fps then back to 300 fps) which I think are related to that fact that I was using Chrome which requires 32bit Java on a 64bit computer.
If this issue is only occurring with Java 64-bit, make sure that 64-bit Java is allowed through your firewall as an exception. Its default path is C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\javaw.exe.
You can also look at the following topic to see if the fixes there may help: http://www.minecraft...l-in-newspanel/
