Multiplayer servers won't load

I just bought minecraft today so I'm completely new. I joined specifically for the hunger games
But I'm stuck at "Scanning for games on your local network..."
What do I do??

Multiplayer worlds are not loaded automatically on the multiplayer menu. You have to manually insert server IPs.

I am having the same problem but I did exactly what you said to do but it still won't load
