So, I have a rather successful world, in which I currently have 37 diamonds stockpiled in under two weeks. For me, that is amazing.
While caving, I encountered a chunk error. Wanting to continue on with my adventure, and spying some emerald in the rendered wall, I saved, quit, and attempted to re-load the save.
After waiting for around thirty seconds, I was returned to the splash screen, where I re-tried to load. Once, again, it failed. I then rebooted Minecraft. I tried again, and it failed. I then attempted loading of a creative world. That succeeded. I copied the save file in .minecraft/saves, attempted to reboot the copy, and it failed. My only assumption is that my world was corrupted. If it can be salvaged, it would be wonderful. But if not, I simply wish to warn others of this disappointing bug.
Also, two times of which I attempted to load my world, Minecraft crashed.
I have contacted Mojang Support on Twitter, and I hope that I will be getting a response.
If one is given, and the problem is rectified, I will post the fix here.
You can try using MCEdit to repair your world.
First, download and install the correct MCEdit for your computer from http://www.mcedit.net/, then load your world into MCEdit. Press Ctrl+i and select 'Repair regions'.
No, it's fixed. No idea how, but when I returned there were around fifty skellies teleporting around like endermen in water... so many, that I used the /kill command to get out of that Notchforsaken cave. I had keepInventory set on true, so no harm done. But jeez.
Oh. Guess what? It's gone again. Cannot play anymore, even when I saved far away from said chunk error. My only guess is that the game is having issues with saving, quitting, then opening again. Rebooting PC.
Brought me back to the original area where I found the chunk error, with the skellies. Did not save my progress. I'll link this post when I talk to Mojang Support.
