Since on a Windows 8 computer the f1, f2 keys are used as shortcuts you can press the fn key and the key you need to use (eg. f4) and it should work as usual. Plus I'd also recommend, turning off shortcuts just so you don't have to deal with them with other games, although this doesn't change the whole fn feature being needed.
