I've posted about this problem before on this forum over a month ago and got no response then. So I'm trying again to see if something new comes up.
Every time I enter Minecraft (whether through Minecraft.exe or a secondary program such as MultiMC or MagicLauncher), the client will freeze permanently either immediately on entry (after selecting a world to play on and loading) or up to a minute later after the chunks are loaded. I can move around during this time until the freeze occurs, then have to kill Java or let Windows close the program to exit.
I have updated my ATI Radeon 4300/4500 Series driver to the current 8.97.100.7 version and have the latest Java, version 7 update 21. I use Minecraft 1.5.2, but have tried with 1.4.7 with no visible change. These are clean installs with no mods, no changes.

I have tried the java.exe from Program Files\Java (as well as from the JDK version) and Program Files (x86)\Java (Note: Both x32 and x64 versions automatically save in Program Files\Java, but I manually change the destination path so I can distinguish between the two), all after removing previous versions manually (and using the automatic tool provided by Java) and downloading the newest listings.
I've done some more extensive testing between different settings, and here's what I've come up with:
I changed 512MB-1G to 1G-2Gs available memory. The only change was the the game stays active longer before freezing. This leads me to believe it is a memory issue, though I have no knowedge of how to fix it further than that.
Secondly, and perhaps irrelevant, is that when the client freezes, the world continues as if I am standing still (which, I suppose, I am). Time passes normally and mobs react as if I am just standing there (meaning I can be killed while the client is frozen and never see it until I load up again).
Don't know if those little bits of information would be helpful, but I'm running low on fix-it ideas myself.
I would take a guess and say your computer is either old or has a lot of downloads on it. The only other way that would I guess help a little would be to change your Video Settings in-game.

I have tried the java.exe from Program Files\Java (as well as from the JDK version) and Program Files (x86)\Java (Note: Both x32 and x64 versions automatically save in Program Files\Java, but I manually change the destination path so I can distinguish between the two), all after removing previous versions manually (and using the automatic tool provided by Java) and downloading the newest listings.
I changed 512MB-1G to 1G-2Gs available memory. The only change was the the game stays active longer before freezing. This leads me to believe it is a memory issue, though I have no knowedge of how to fix it further than that.
Secondly, and perhaps irrelevant, is that when the client freezes, the world continues as if I am standing still (which, I suppose, I am). Time passes normally and mobs react as if I am just standing there (meaning I can be killed while the client is frozen and never see it until I load up again).
Don't know if those little bits of information would be helpful, but I'm running low on fix-it ideas myself.
