According to the MC Wiki, zipped texture packs do work in Minecraft, however they don't seem to be working for me. The game does recognise the files as texture packs, however, it only displays their name, and a grayscale version of the default texture icon, with a question mark over it. When I select the pack, the game uses the default textures in everything, suggesting that it can't find the texture. I've double checked, and all the files are correct. Please help, thanks.
If you're running Minecraft 1.5 then make sure the texturepack is updated to the new format. If your favorite texturepack has not been updated then you can use the unstitcher tool to convert it as mentioned in the resources section HERE in the wiki.
Also not sure if the game can handle rar format, I always make sure to use zip when zipping my texturepack.

The packs are definitely up to date, and are definitely .zip files.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
