I tried to open minecraft recently and windows gave me an error reading, "The registry refers to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupted.the system cannot find the file type specified." This is extremely frustrating because I cannot play because of this.
Uninstall Java via the control panel, every single version you have installed. Reboot the computer, then grab the latest here, http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
