I'm getting this same error message, however, a lot changed on my computer from when it was working, to when it isn't. I had been complaining about my computer's slowness to my roommate, and he agreed to see what he could do about it, and here is what he did:
Replaced AVG Free antivirus with a paid for Avast! antivirus
Replaced Free Download Manager with BitComet
Replaced Google Chrome with Mozilla Firefox (no, I have no browsers open)
And added Razer Game Booster
I have heard that Minecraft has some problems with Avast!, but I'm afraid to go back to the limited free version of AVG. But, I <3 Minecraft, so I guess I'll have to do something.
UPDATE: Was uninstalling Java (again) and it suddenly stopped to tell my I still had a program running that was using Java called jqs.exe. I had no other programs that I knew of running, so I instantly thought it was a virus. But when I did scan (with Avast!), it came up with nothing. Any idea of what this is?
well i have re-downloaded minecraft. i don't know how to backdate to java 6. and i kinda want to do as little download or instalation as possible. btw that was the full error log. and i dont know how to update java either.
Remove all versions of Java present from the machine via the Control Panel, as in, uninstall them. Reboot the computer, and grab the latest here, http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
If you have windows, try finding out whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit system. These are just designations for how the processor handles RAM.
To find out go to Control Panel, then System and Security, from there you should be able to find a menu option to describe your system's processing speed and memory capacity, this will be different depending on your version of windows.
You will have to uninstall your current java, reinstall it from here: http://java.com/en/, then install the Java JRE specific to your system type.
Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.
