Whenever I try to connect to a minecraft server, I always get kicked 1-2 seconds later with some error about having too long of a string or a bad compressed data format. I've searched for solutions to this, and have seen that some people have had similar problems that were fixed when they downloaded another version of Java (I'm not sure this is the right solution but I tried it anyway). I started out by uninstalling Java from my computer, then going to the Java website and trying to install the 32-bit version of Java offline. When I did this, the download got to 100% but then stopped, and said "0 seconds remaining". When I check Downloads nothing is there. Now, whenever I try to open minecraft, it says I can't since I don't have Java.
Anyone know how to fix this? I have Windows 8 and use Google Chrome if that matters
I tried that, and downloaded the file for Java, but when I try opening minecraft it still gives me the error "this application requires a Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0". Do I have to do anything with the file in "Downloads" to get minecraft to recognize it?
I tried deleting my minecraft folder, but that didn't do anything.
I have all 3 Java downloads for Windows on my Desktop (32 bit, 64 bit, and the one they automatically give you when you press the button [not sure if this is 32 or 64]), and yet when I open Minecraft it still gives me the same error.
Ok, thank you very much for your help, I finally managed to get Java 6 on my computer by transferring it from another computer to this one via flash drive.
However, now when I open minecraft and update, it gets stuck at 99% when it is retrieving the minecraft .jar...
Any idea how I could fix this?
I've already tried deleting the whole .bin and force updating, and all that does is stop the loading when it says "retreiving lwjgl" at 10%.
I have WinRAR installed and whenever it tries to load it creates a bunch of those kind of files in the .bin, not sure if that is relevant..
