I am on Windows 8, but I don't think this is the reason for Minecraft not working. I had Windows Vista, but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Minecraft isn't available in the Windows Store, but can still be downloaded as a file and played in Desktop Mode, correct me if I'm wrong. I downloaded the game and tried to play in browser, but I get the same message.

Minecraft worked when I ran Vista, so I don't think it is the video card drivers. I downloaded a program called Slimdrivers, and after updating all drivers, Minecraft gives me the same messages.
Is there something I'm missing here?
If there has been an issue like this that I just haven't gotten to yet, please notify me and I will see if that solves the problem, than you.

I am on Windows 8 and going through the website, they have posted that they do not plan to release updated drivers for many of the older graphics cards, and the above chipset is included in that list. Windows 8 is only supported by the following:
Well then I might have to think about downgrading to Windows 7. I like the Windows 8 interface, but Minecraft might be worth it to downgrade.
Besides, I may get my own laptop in a few years which will be newer and will probably have the necessary graphics drivers to run with Windows 8 and Minecraft.
Thanks for the input.

The above driver came up when I searched for the g33 express chipset.
Apparently, I have a newer version, so the installer halted, notifying me of this. Should I overwrite my current newer version driver with the older Windows 7 driver?
If this allows me to play Minecraft I will gladly attempt it.

Retired StaffYou need to go to the manufacturer of your graphics card's website and get the latest drivers for your card.
If you don't know your computer's graphics card model, please make a DxDiag.

HD Graphics 4000
HD Graphics 2500
HD Graphics 3000
HD Graphics 2000
HD Graphics on Intel® Pentium® Processors
HD Graphics on Intel® Celeron® Processors
Graphics Media Accelerator on Intel® Atom™ Processor Z2760
Is there any way to play Minecraft on Windows 8 without the above graphics drivers?
