Something's been bothering me. I play Minecraft frequently, and I've noticed that, in all of the Alpha versions, blocks that I pick up and place in my inventory's hotbar have some sides that are shaded completely black. Most often it's the top side and the left side, but, in Beta versions, it's just the left side. This also occurs with entities like mobs, where sometimes even an entire half of the mob is completely black.
Notice the cow's black side. On the far left of my hotbar, there are logs. Next to the sapling is dirt. This bug occurs with any block, but no items. It is not limited to the hotbar; it happens in any container or inventory slot.
I am running OS X 10.8.3 on an Early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, which I believe is the source of this problem. I have Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_21-b12) and Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.21-b01, mixed mode).
This problem, at least for the entities, exists in every version of Minecraft I can play, whether it's in the full release or Infdev. The block glitch in containers is limited to versions before 1.8, however. This shows me that it's fixable within the game's code and it's not entirely a problem with my system environment. If someone could help, I'd be really grateful!
Sorry that this is a really late reply, but I tried that, and it didn't work. I think the problem has something to do with the Intel graphics, but it's strange because when I played these versions originally (when they first became available, back in 2011-2010) this bug didn't exist.
