So yeah... I'm getting that error when I try to force update my Minecraft. It also asks me if I want to update (I'm on 1.5.2) whenever I start the game, and if I hit "Yes" then it throws the error again. I've (temporarily) uninstalled all antivirus and Windows Firewall is set to allow Minecraft... Running it as Administrator doesn't work either. I do have K9 W/P but that hasn't changed. So... Any ideas?

This error usually means filtering software is blocking Minecraft from downloading -- and K9 is reported to be the culprit in many cases.
Make sure you allow Minecraft (minecraft.exe, java.exe, javaw.exe) to perform downloads, specifically from s3.amazonaws.com.
I unblocked s3.amazonaws.com with k9 and it doesn't work. Although, it wasn't blocked before. This just started a week or so ago. I don't think anything was changed.
