This is my first topic on the MC forums, so I might make a mistake or two.
I run a MacBook Air with the feature that lights up the keyboard, the F5 key. This is also the key that toggles third-person view on Minecraft. However, in order to achieve third-person on a Mac, you have to hold fn along with F5. Now I have some issues with this. I play on a lot of PVP servers and frequently get chased around. On my older Mac desktop I used to own, I simply hit F5, because there was no feature assigned to that key, to toggle third-person view to see if I was being chased around. It was a big advantage to me, but I can't do this on my MacBook. If I am spring-jumping, I have to reach all the way to fn and F5 to try to toggle third-person, but this doesn't even do anything.
So I'm wondering if there is a way to easily toggle F5 like I did on my old Mac where I didn't have to hold any fn keys. This would help me a lot.
There should be a setting in System Preferences under Keyboard that lets you toggle having to hold down fn or not. Only downside is that youll have to hold down fn when you want to change your volume or screen brightness.

Thanks for getting back so quick! I'm sort of a noob with system preferences, so do you know how I could do that?

Open system preferences go to keyboard and check the option that says Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys.
