So basically, since I reinstalled Windows 7 the launcher hasn't worked. I've tried deleting and reinstalling it, setting it as an exception to AVG, and I've removed/reinstalled java countless times. I honestly don't know what else to do... It generates an instance on the taskbar but all I can do is close it, it won't do anything and just sits there forever

The new launcher will actually open for me, but it won't generate news (grey screen) and I can't click anything. 'Play' is usually greyed out, and it keeps saying 'loading versions' but never does. I managed to get it to load once after I added it as an exception, but after that it never worked

Hope somebody can help me, I've been working on this one for months! Thanks

EDIT: My other post only just showed up, it kept giving me an error so I thought it never got posted. Mods can delete that one, sorry for the mistake

By manually, you mean placing the files in the correct folders myself?

Anyways I added both the old and the new launchers as exceptions to the firewall, no luck so far ):

and I just updated my drivers, how can they not be showing?

Did another one just now, the latest driver's been downloaded and installed so it should show up

Checked for drivers and there was another download so I got that, the installer finished with no problems and the website told me I was current, as did that Nvidia experience software that came with the download.

Get this though, I was able to open the vanilla minecraft launcher and even log in once (the news screen just had a bunch of gibberish characters though), then it went back to what it was doing before when I tried to launch it a 2nd time. New launcher still does not let me do anything with it, and the new magic launcher did the same thing as the vanilla one.

I'm about ready to give up... none of this makes sense

Don't think it's working, a window comes up that displays the contents of the bat file but just sits there waiting for further input

Well it launched once not long ago, but I can't replicate it. I've been getting alot of flukes like that lately

Somebody mentioned that custom Windows 7 themes could mess with java, so I tried deleting my custom themes and I got it to give me a window once, but it was just a black screen and I couldn't interact with it to log in and no news was displayed

I'm really getting confused now... nothing's consistent

I believe I may have found a solution, unless the problem comes back again (but last time it didn't so this is good news). I found an old thread that mentioned a utility called JavaRa, so I decided to give that a whirl on the off chance, and it worked! Vanilla minecraft launches now, no lag or anything *hopes I haven't just jinxed myself but fires up the game anyway*
