Strange issue. I had been using Eyes of Ender to locate a stronghold. When I found the area, I dug down a little and then went out and saved the game. When I went back into the game, the world wouldn't load. It shows the "Loading World" and Building Terrain", stays there for about thirty seconds, then goes back to the "Single Player/Mulitplayer" window.
The first time this happened I tried a few suggestions for corrupt worlds I found online, but no change. I reverted to a backup from an hour previous (via TimeMachine), and it was fine.
I spent some time gathering my things and retracing my steps and found the place to dig for the stronghold again. Before I started digging I saved and quit again to save my spot, and I backed up the world folder to my desktop just in case, but when I went back in it got stuck again at "Loading World".
Strange.
The first time it happened I had used mcpatcher3.0.4 to add a couple of mods. I deactivated the mods, tossed all Minecraft files and application support file (but saved my 'saves' folder) and did a force update. So the second time it happened, after getting my backup restored, it was in a clean Minecraft install. Also, other saved worlds work fine.
I was afraid you were going to ask that. I think it was just the basic mods in mcpatcher, plus one that (I believe) was called "Keep Inventory on Death". The file was called "so.class", if that helps.
I also had an inactive Texture pack called Mine Wars. It was not active at the time, and it's not there after I re-installed Minecraft.
Thanks, but that's the first thing I tried. No change.
I'll save my map and try going to the stronghold location and see if it happens again. I'm now running a clean Minecraft, I think the world is corrupted somehow. Anyone know how to dig into those files to look for corruption? Any log files I can create and post? I'm not sure how to find the log files, so let me know the steps to create one.
If your world got corrupted you can try to repair it with MCEdit. Open the offending world in MCEdit, press 'ctrl-i' and select 'Repair regions' in the dialogue which pops up. Once this has completed, save your world and exit MCEdit.
To download MCEdit, go to http://www.mcedit.net/ and choose the version appropriate for your OS.

Thank you, I'll give that a try and let you know what comes of it.
Thanks, but repairing the map using MCEdit did not work.
And now another corruption on my world, but not after seeking out the stronghold. I recovered from a backup, but I guess there is something else I'm doing besides searching for a stronghold that is ing it off.
Restoring from a backup (which runs every hour) is not too bad. I'll just try to save and quit soon after the backup runs, thinking that maybe the act of saving and quitting prompts the corruption.
Any additional thought are welcome, and thanks for your help so far.

Any thoughts?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
