so, I screwed up on installing a mod from a previous version, so naturally, I gave up, replaced my 1.2.5 minecraft.jar and started the launcher after force updating. so, It should work, right. sadly, this is not the case. It asks if I want to update, and I say yes. But then, It just stops and has a screen that says: "Fatal error Occured (4): null" so I delete my .minecraft folder and it keeps happening! so.... A wee bit 'o' help would be appreciated?
Ugh... I knew those anti-virus things were a waste... A friend recomended all of these firewall things and antivirus crap... I have mcafree, and avg, plus the windows firewall... I'll check it outwith the exeption of the windows firewall, which I never touch, My firewalls seem to be off on the other virus scanning crap...
Well, disabling avg won't work and upon futher study, I only have mcafree Security Scan. I don't belive that it does anything other than just scanning. plus there's no way to disable anything anyway, so... yeaaah....
Well, before we go to "extremes," I've had them for about 2 months now and It worked fine when I played before... You sure that it's the firewall causing me not to play? When I choose not to update, It just goes to a black screen, so... yeah...
As stated there, the 'null' version of the error is usually caused by a filtering application.
As for what you said, how many times in the last 2 months have you done a force update or a regular update? This is happening because you're downloading a jar. It wouldn't happen when you are using MC normally
I tried uninstalling mcafee and that did nothing.. as for how many times I've done a force update... uhm... probably abot 10-15
Ugh... it seems to have no solution....
hi i just fixed this and what you have to do is when you log in dont instead go to options and delte your jar. folder then force update should work then it worked for me i had the same problem.

Retired StaffDo you have any other firewall other than the Windows Firewall, or an antivirus program that could be blocking downloads?

Retired StaffBoth of which are known to cause connection issues. Also it is advisable to only have one installed.
Disable both and try to login.
