So alot of people have probably heard of this problem that Minecraft says "can't connect to minecraft.net". I have downloaded older version of java, new version of java, hit my computer, tried to play in-browser and it says "failed to launch (5): A device attached to the system is not functioning. I checked my time on the computer, up-to-date. I also had deleted my .minecraft folder too, to start fresh and still doesn't fix problem. Please Help!
Hi,
It looks like something may be blocking access to minecraft.net. Do you have a firewall other than the Windows Firewall, e.g. one with an antivirus program like Norton?
So I don't have Norton and I went to the regular firewall and that shouldn't be the problem, but I went ahead and added it so It could pass through. I went back to Minecraft and it is still saying the same thing. My computer is also blue screening, I don't know if that could be the cause or what.
What is the STOP error code provided on your BSoD, as well as the text at the top?
If your computer is set to auto-reboot, it's in the 'Startup and Recovery' section of 'Advanced' in 'System Properties'.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your conputer.
If this is the forst time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the friver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Chexk with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

This is starting to turn into a PC support discussion. If you can't boot your computer into normal mode, start your computer and keep pressing the F8 key until the advanced boot options menu comes up. Select 'Safe Mode' or 'Safe Mode with Networking'. Go into the Device Manager and check for any exclamation marks next to any devices.
Looking around, some people have reported this issue with RAM. You may wish to turn to a PC support forum for further assistance on this issue as this isn't a PC support forum.
