While on SP and my MP server, I have recently dealt with this "stutter/milisecond lag" issue. My frame rate is high, but every few seconds or so, the game freezes or hitches for a brief second. Granted, I can still play the game, but this gets very annoying over time. I have tried changing the video settings, but it does not help. I have a feeling it might be something with Java? My question is how do I fix this then? I could not seem to find files for Java installed on my computer, which confuses me how I'm running the game. Do I just need to update to the latest version?

Here's some basic specs of my Mac.
early 2009
4 gigs of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB

You can try updating Java using this guide on Java's website: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_java_update.xml

Would I download and install Java 7? Or 6? I've heard that people had problems playing minecraft with 7 on Macs. I think the problem does lie with updating Java though. I just don't want to install it and have more problems.

So do you suggest I don't meddle with java with my Mac at all? And what is the Magic Launcher?

Ok thanks for the suggestion. What would the Magic Launcher do to fix the problem, or more simply, what does it do?
I never had any issues until after the 1.5 update, if that helps at all.

I've actually done this already in the past, I've been fine until now. The weird thing is that it runs fine on my Windows laptop even with the same amount of RAM. This "stuttering" lag on my mac happens on both SP and MP. It's just strange that when I check, I have high FPS, but I still get this brief hitch every 10 seconds or so. I've tried working with the settings, but it does nothing.

After testing it out, I think I finally have the solution. I installed Magic Launcher and Optifine as well, and after working with the settings, the "stuttering" seems to have dissapeared. Thanks for the suggestions, appreciate it!
