there are many previous posts about this, ive read them all, they all pertain to minecraft before the recent changes to the launcher and java.
i just need to know how to allocate more memory to minecraft now that it launches via the launcher, mac osx 10.6 or 10.8.
more:
all previous versions of minecraft do not exist on my mac. just the launcher, so i cant go into minecraft and show package contents and change info.plist. there is an info.plist in the minecraftdev, but it has no effect on minecraft.
i can add to the options of java preferences, but this has no effect on minecraft, as the code in tutorials effects the minecraft.jar, and there is no minecraft.jar on my mac. when the launcher runs minecraft its just an instance of java, through which all i can do is get to a terminal.
im being plagued recently by game-wrecking fps issues, but in studying the f3 screen, i think i can link it to a need for an increase to allocated memory. ive tried everything else. i dont want to have to get a new computer. dont have that kind of money. but i will for you minecraft;)
sorry to repost about this topic, but no existing thread or tutorial has resulted in any success. this is my last shot before a new pc...
An increase in allocated memory almost exclusively causes problems.
Instead try using the Magic Launcher. It allocates less RAM than default but I suggest you go to Setup>Advanced and change the 512 to 384.
Try launching Minecraft with that. Do you still have problems that are RAM-related?

ah thanks, finally some assistance.
magic launcher fails to successfully launch minecraft. here are the problems i see after testing tonight:
minecraft.jar does not exist on my computer. the launcher downloads the snapshots and versions as the snapshot or version title.jar (1.5.2.jar, 13w19a.jar) and runs them through java. the only other jar file is the minecraftdev.jar, which is just mojangs launcher.
attempting to run any of these through the magiclauncher gives the error 'invalid'

all versions of minecraft via the launcher are the same. the jar for 1.5.2. is 1.5.2.jar, magic launcher wont run it, either..
these framerate issues just happened out of nowhere. i was running faithful 32, all video settings maxed, and the next day, boom 6fps. ive read through the forums. it seems a few people are having this problem suddenly.
