I started a new world with Large Biomes, and opened up AMIDST. To my surprise, the biomes aren't large.
To be sure, I recreated the world several times, with default and with LB. Both settings create exactly the same map - but the spawn point is about 200 blocks different. They are so identical, I was able to find the exact same village in both maps, bisected by the same ravine, and the same library with a door that's impossible to reach.
I would post the seed, but that's not the point. Try it yourself - try any seed with both settings, and travel to the same coordinates.
I've searched the forum and the bug tracker thing, and it seems like nobody's talking about this, but I think it's in both 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 - because I used the same seed last month, and I remember the village.
I don't see how that could be. I've put the maps side by side, and it's the same damn map. Same biomes in the same places. Same mushroom island 1km west. Did I break the Minecraft?
MIght be. I used the same seed for both, and moved out about 1000 blocks. In that time, with large biomes I only saw 2 Biomes. Jungle and Swamp. I sampled Forest, Plains, Jungle, Desert and Ocean in the original seed. Seed I used was SEED on both.
Wow... I just did some exploring and mapping, and I was wrong. Large Biomes works fine, but AMIDST is drawing the map wrong. I'll go post in his thread.
Also, trivia: both maps really do have the same village and the same ravine at the same coords. The nearby biomes are similar, but bigger.

Any ideas?
EDIT: Oh hell, I wonder if it's a bug in AMIDST?
