Just updated my nVidia driver and still the same error.......
I can't seem to run as Administrator as I don't know the password. Is there an easy to reset that?
The account is not an administrator level user then? This very well could be your problem. If you have an account on the computer that is an administrator I would recommend logging in with that user and just doing a test install of minecraft there to see if it runs okay from there to see if this is really your issue. If you go into the control panel and look at the user accounts there it should show a list of users and their permission levels are listed to the right under the 'Group' heading.
Changing the hidden system administrator account password if you don't know it is not possible (without a lot of hassle). This password is setup when the OS is installed. It's possible that your PC manufacturer support center will tell you whatever the factory default is they use for their computers. I'm not sure how that is usually handled.

I only see 3 accounts (mine, ASP.NET and Guest). My account probably has Admin permissions because I've had it for 5 years and there is nothing I've ever not been able to do.

Actually I just guessed the Administrator password and it worked. I still get the same error though.
I just had the exact same problem. I updated Java, video drivers and many of the other suggestions here without success. Eventually, I figured out that I needed to update my Java 64 bit drivers and that did the trick. When I updated Java the first time, it was the 32 bit version. So maybe this will help other people. Good luck!

I have a 32 bit machine and 32 bit Java installed....
i too have windoes xp
i think i can haz a fix to this.
I remember when I had this problem. I had raged, and after scouring the interwebz for answers, found 2 solutions.
One is permanent, one is temp.
PERMANENT FIX (may not work!):
It all started when my PC would not start. Half a month later, when I got it to start, I got the infamous "Could not create the JVM" error message popup when trying to run minecraft. So I updated to J7, and did a system restore. That got me halfway there. I then uninstalled useless programs, taking up valuable RAM. I found that now, Minecraft would run if i executed it right as my pc was starting up. I then uninstalled even more crap, and VOILA! But, alas, I found that minecraft would close within about 5 minutes. To combat this, I wrote a quick batch file:
I tried that code but clicking the bat file does nothing. A DOS window pops up momentarily but not long enough to see what it says.
I did the exact same thing and if you type pause in the next line when your're editing the file it will show you that there is not enough memory reserved for object heap, and initialization of JVM failed.
Does that mean we have to allocate more RAM to MC?
I already have allocated 1.5 GB of RAM to it. Any other solutions to the problem?
@echo off
java -Xmx500M -cp minecraft.exe net.minecraft.LauncherFrame 2> errorlog.txt
save that in notepad as MoreRAMMLaucher.bat (make sure you turn the 2nd box to all files)
If it no longer throws up the error try increasing the number untill you find the maximum ram you can force for minecraft (looking at the advanced error log it looks like you can force 1400m)
This error is to do with not enough available ram being on the computer (2gb minimum for minecraft)
as you only have 1.4gb available minecraft is unable to run i know its silly but its true.
this is the fix for windows xp service pack 3 32bit system
it has allowed me to play minecraft again myself, it may lag slightly at times as the system is processing something but its very very random and usually only lasts 5-10 seconds
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is the 64bit fix for minecraft (note the 2 xm lines for both the 32bit and 64bit version of java)
_______________________________________________________________________________
I do get a DOS window but my OS is Japanese and my reading comprehension is not great. So I can't really read teh error. I have tried editing it to 1000M, 1400M even 2400M and it still won't run.
Minecraft runs on my Laptop which has 2gb. This PC has 3gb. But MC is too slow on the laptop to be able to play.

im finding it extremely confusing why its saying "specified path is not found" about 3 of the 4 lines in japanese, the last line says press any key to continue, what happens when you do this?
if all the above fails can i get you to delete minecraft and all its files from your computer (save the saved games folder or your son will be angry) and do a completely new install of minecraft from the website then try the moreramm laucher again on 500m and only 500m until we find out the problem
When I press any key the DOS window disappears and nothing else happens.
I deleted the .minecraft folder from Application Data. There is no way to "install" minecraft from the website. There is just the exe file which still does not run with the same error. The .minecraft folder came from the PCGamer demo my son was running.
So I have no Minecraft files on my computer and no way to get Minecraft files onto my computer. I suppose the exe file does the install and it does not work.
you can get the up to date minecraft files by pressing "in browser" instead of download this will give you the complete minecraft files and should get you back up and running
Okay, so went to the browser game, that installed the files. Edited the bat file to 500M and it still gives the exact same error. Frustrating.
well atleast your son can play the game in the browser for the moment (dont worry all saves transfer over to the laucher and vice versa)
i know you dislike Irc but its looking more and more likely that you may have to seek advice there, I myself am becoming stuck with your error and i am struggling to think of what else you can try to get back up and running.
You have:
reinstalled java
reinstalled minecraft
updated your graphics drivers
tried magic launcher
updated your LWJGL
ran the program as administrator
ran the advanced error tester
last thing i can suggest is running the dxdiag (so we can see your computer specifications) http://www.minecraft...g-a-dxdiag-log/ and get you to post the results in
YOUR TEXT HERE
I certainly appreciate your efforts. Here is the DxDiag:

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I only see 3 accounts (mine, ASP.NET and Guest). My account probably has Admin permissions because I've had it for 5 years and there is nothing I've ever not been able to do.
Actually I just guessed the Administrator password and it worked. I still get the same error though.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
I have a 32 bit machine and 32 bit Java installed....
Thank you. Trying this now.

I tried this:
java -Xmx500M -cp minecraft.exe net.minecraft.LauncherFrame 2> errorlog.txt
pause
I do get a DOS window but my OS is Japanese and my reading comprehension is not great. So I can't really read teh error. I have tried editing it to 1000M, 1400M even 2400M and it still won't run.
Minecraft runs on my Laptop which has 2gb. This PC has 3gb. But MC is too slow on the laptop to be able to play.
I did exactly what you did and here is the error log.
java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Documents and Settings\Ashhad\Application Data\.minecraft\lastlogin (The system cannot find the file specified)
at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)
at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
at net.minecraft.LoginForm.readUsername(LoginForm.java:110)
at net.minecraft.LoginForm.<init>(LoginForm.java:55)
at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.<init>(LauncherFrame.java:23)
at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.main(LauncherFrame.java:167)
It doesn't seem to generate an error log. I have both bat and Minecraf.exe in My Documents but no errorlog.exe is generated.
Definitely Java 7 Update 21
The DOS window (in Japanese):
"指定されたパスが見つかりません" means The Specified bus cannot be found.
Okay, so went to the browser game, that installed the files. Edited the bat file to 500M and it still gives the exact same error. Frustrating.
I certainly appreciate your efforts. Here is the DxDiag:
Yep, just did an update the other day.....
Okay, thanks for the efforts.
