I updated to 1.5.2 and ever since I've been having SEVERE lagging issues, to the point where the game is simply unplayable. This is happening both on multiplayer and single player. Basically the game will be fine for about a minute, then the lag happens. Not only does it take forever to move or select anything (in my inventory or even in the options areas) but it takes forever to type as well.
I'm running Windows 8 on an HP Envy laptop. As of today, my sound and video card drivers have been updated. I've uninstaled Minecraft and Java, reinstalled both. It seems I can only install Java 32bit, Windows 8 isn't supporting 64bit yet? I got some sort of message about that, I forget exactly what it said but I remember something about being unable to run/download java in 64bit mode.
Secondly, when I hit f3 to check out my fps, during the lag, I was getting 0 fps. Then it would fluctuate to 19, then 34, I think, then 93, then back to zero, and it would just fluctuate like that. I don't think I've seen it over 108, somewhere in that area.
Changing the options and taking away the fancier graphics doesn't change anything. Restarting doesn't change anything. But I did find out that when I downgraded to 1.5.1, everything was fine in single player. I assume it would be find in multiplayer as well, but since my favorite server (the only one I have listed at the moment since I uninstalled everything) is running 1.5.2 so I can't connect at the moment to check that.
I ran a scan on the .minecraft folder with both Norton and Malwarebytes Anti-malware. Both came up clean. I also ran the Advanced Mincecraft Error test. Here is the result:

I don't know why it says it can't execute java. I was having an issue with internal java exception, or something like that, while running 1.5.1 in multiplayer where I would suddenly just get kicked with that "lost connection" message. Sometimes this would happen as soon as I logged in, multiple times, or some time while I was playing. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java but nothing fixed that problem, either. At least I was able to play most of the time with that, though! The way the game is now, I can't play it at all unless I play on single player and on the downgraded 1.5.1. Let me know if you need any more information. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh shoot, hang on. That error test was for 1.5.1, here's the correct one for 1.5.2:

This time I did a force update and things seem to be going okay in single player (so far, anyway. Played longer than it did before!) but now I'm having a different problem with multiplayer. When I try to log into the server, it says "Connection Last: Failed to login: Bag login" then when I hit the cancel button it says there's a comunication error for the server I'm trying to connect to. What the heck.
And suddenly it started working again. What the heck?! Maybe I did all the updates just fine, then the final updated I just needed a system restart? Unless the last time I played was just a fluke. I'm going to try it again and see how it plays. If it messes up again I'll be back to try some of your suggestions. Thanks for the quick replies, I appreciate it!
