A lot of people have been having trouble with Windows 8, most of the problems seem to be with the graphics format that Windows 8 supports, it no longer has native support for OpenGL. I suggest trying to find an updated driver for your graphics processor card/chip, while this might not solve your problem it can't hurt anything to try it can it?
If your computer manufacturer has nothing on their support website then try going directly to the site of the maker of your GPU.
