I figured this out by accident, but I noticed that when I would play the game that all the graphics would start to glitch within 10 minutes of play regardless of what's going on within the game. Since I have windows 7 64 bit I decided to not only install the 32bit version of Java 7.21 but I went ahead and installed the 64 bit version on top of that. Since I've done that I have not had any issues with graphics. I can play for hours with no performance issues. Just thought I'd share that with everyone in case I'm not alone in this.
