No no no no no, cannot be. As i have the same exact problem, yet i have never gotten it to work on my computer, and i tried minecraft BEFORE McPatcher was ever downloaded.

*Edit* Seeing as this was posted like a week ago and the user hasn't replied, it problaby was the reason why.... sorry! :/
