Black Screen Only

I'm a novice and just loaded minecraft PC for my son. It does not seem to work. All I get is a black screen and it locks up my computer and it says NOT responding. I had Java 7 and then I removed it and loaded Java 6 but that did not seem to do it. Any suggestions. There are no error reports anywhere. It just hangs up ont he balck screen.

Delete the whole Minecraft File with the Minecraft app and redownload Minecraft

I deleted all files and re-installed mindcraft from the site you noted. I also created a run.bat file in Notepad with the code you provided. I inserted the run.bat file it the same directory as the mindcraft.exe (C:/mindcraft). I double clicked the run.bat file, it sent me to the mindcraft site, I logged in successfully, it downloaded a bunch of files, and then went to a new window and all black screen, and then "not responding". I'm not sure what to do now. And I spent $25 for this..... Other ideas. I'm running Windows XP SP3 (latest) and Google Chrome as my browser and running java 6. Is there an official Mindcraft tech support?
