How do you break Pistons?

I have 1.5.1 version, and I've placed a sticky piston. I cannot remove it. I've tried a pickaxe, an axe, a scythe/hoe, a shovel, punching, a sword, and even shears. Every tool available, and it won't break so I can pick it back up.

Any assistance would be appreciated. We've tried restarting the game several times.

You might be in a gamemode where blocking blocks is not allowed. Press T in game then type in this command
/gamemode s

See if it still does not let you. You should be able to break it with a pickaxe.

Thank you kindly, that fixed the issue. I was able to break other stuff, so it never occurred to me it might be anything like that.
