Hi i'm using a new computer with an old hard drive and it used to work, but now it stopped working.

When you got your new computer, did you get new drivers for your graphics card? From what I've seen the Microsoft drivers don't support OpenGL and OpenGL is used in Minecraft. So, old video card drivers could be your problem.
Ok I'll try that, this computer was previously using Windows but the new hard drive is Linux Mint.

EDIT: It worked! I greatly appreciate your time and help. However, Minecraft is super laggy and slows down the computer a lot so I probably won't be playing for a while

If you accidentally installed more than one driver that can cause low FPS. Also, do you happen to know your computer specs? Most decent modern computers should be able to handle Minecraft, even if it is the one of the least framerate optimized game known to humanity.
