I put Minecraft on an older laptop, a 1.6GHz Dual Core (Centrino).
It runs okay for the most part. Sound crackles (slowdown-based) a little under 30FPS, but again, runs ok.
That is, until Jungles appear.
It doesn't always happen ,but whenever a jungle biome appears, there's a risk of the game crashing out, with some Java error message.
If I'm in the Nehter, other boimes, it runs fine (occasionally hit memory limits, but that's due to lack of resources, fixed 99% of that problem myself).
Every single time the game bombs out, there's ALWAYS been a jungle present, or am in one.
Wondering if anyone else has had this happen.
Just looking for general info about this.
Jungles have long been one of the more resource intense biomes. This is due to all the vine growth checks, leaf decay mechanic and a lot of block surfaces to be rendered. Lighting calculations might be more intenser there also but not exactly sure.
What I would be curious to know is if you stayed in an area for awhile and gave time for all the excess leaf blocks on the tree models to decay and for the vines to grow if the lag would letup in that area and be more playable.
I do notice on my other laptop (my good one), the framerate will drop in a jungle, but ultimately recovers. Sometimes, it'll drop again, recover again.
On the crash-happy laptop, I pulled the F3 screen up, and it doesn't run out of allocated memory, which I thought it was probably doing (hard crash, instead of the "Out of memory!" message).
While it's running, the crash-happy one does the yo-yo effect as well. Sometimes, it's just a sliver of jungle on the edges of the rendered world, when you're about 64 blocks (guesstimate) from it, then it's a gamble.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
