I just grabbed the new launcher, and somewhere along the way MC stopped recognizing control + click as right click (MacBook Pro). It's always recognized it in the past. Not sure if this is a known bug or not, or if there's a way to fix it.
Go to options and disable touchscreen mode, and you meant new launcher as the 1.6 dev launcher? That one comes with LWJGL 2.9.0, which may or may not have broken control+click features.
