I recently bought Minecraft and it ran for a few minutes and quit.
I re-downloaded with no success. After many hours of struggle, I finally got it to open, but all I'm getting is a window that says "Minecraft" at the top left and a black screen.
I thought it might be night, so a waited. No such luck.
Is there anyone out there that might have an idea as to what is going on. I'm losing hope that this program will run at all for me.

By "re-downloaded" do you mean you clicked the download link again, or did you uninstall minecraft from your computer then re-click the download link? The link on the website will simply act as a launcher if it sees a copy of the game on your hard drive.
If all you want is to play the game, you can always log-in at the website and play the browser version while you work out what's wrong with your client.
