This may sound like the run-of-the-mill familiar double-placement issue heard of so often, but it's not exactly. It is, however, a sort of continuation of this old thread since there are many similarities to what some people there were experiencing.
I will list all that I have figured out so far concerning my particular version of the problem as it is driving me and a friend crazy.
Symptoms:
This problem consistently occurs in very specific types of areas on maps but not at all when away from those areas (Bermuda Triangles.."chunks"). This problem was discovered when recreating historical buildings in Minecraft in Creative mode on a flat-world map.
Once a structure had reached a certain size this double/triple block placement + destruction problem, with only one click or key-press, would start to occur in the inner-most chunks of the building, all the way from the bottom to the top, and even there some areas were worse than others. But just a little ways away, at the buildings outer fascade or the yard around it, the blocks place and are destroyed normally with no problems at all. It essentially made it impossible to finish detailing these structures in creative mode.
- The only work-around was to change it to Survival mode with a mod then have only 1 block per inventory slot so that it is impossible for it to drop more than one block.
Conditions:
This problem is occurring on all of the at-work standard issue HP computers that are somewhat locked down so I can't update drivers and such: Dual-core, 3.333Ghz, 4GB RAM, Intel graphics, Vista 32bit, Java 6 32bit.
- It used to also happen on my ancient single-core system at home with Win XP and an ATI video card but it has mysteriously stopped happening on that system now...
- Occurs with every version of Minecraft I've tried so far, even with 1.2.5 and earlier (before the Server-client merge).
- Occurs in both Creative Mode and Survival mode.
- Occurs with both Java 6 and 7 (both 32bit, cannot test 64bit)
- Occurs even after updating to lwjgl 2.8.5.
- Occurs even with Optifine installed.
- Occurs even when fps is brought up to over 150fps due to Tiny View + other settings tweaks.
- Occurs both for mouse and keyboard, I used controls to set the Left and Right click to keyboard keys instead, no change.
- I've tried messing with the mouse and keyboard control panel settings but gotten no change.
- Nothing I can find to change in the video settings seems to make a difference.
This used to happen on my personal computer too, which is very different from the above work computer, but now this doesn't happen with it anymore for some reason.. The blocks place smoothly 1 by 1 in the exact same maps now. I've thought about it and I really have no idea what has changed on my personal system that would have fixed this.
Theories:
- Both the mouse and keyboard for each of these systems is on an extender since the actual computer is in another room. -- But: My home computer did not have extenders and this problem still existed in the exact same way.
- Video drivers. -- Maybe, unfortunately I cannot change them...
* Remember; This problem only occurs in certain types of chunks and not everywhere, and happens regardless of fps and how smooth the game plays otherwise.
Thanks for exploring this mystery with me!
