My son (10) is loving Minecraft. He has the pocket edition on a Kindle Fire, but is wanting "the full version".
I trust we cannot run the full version on the Kindle Fire, correct?
He also has a little laptop, the Acer Aspire One:
Intel Atom N2600 processor
1.60GHz, 1MB Cache
1GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory
From looking around these excellent forums I see that the graphics card is the main "issue" with getting a good frame rate for the full version.
Digging around on the Intel site, I see that this chip has a 200 Mhz integrated graphics capability.
Is this going to be good enough for the full version?
Finally, is there any way to test this out in advance so we don't buy the full version and then figure out that it just won't work on his machine (there is no way I'm letting him use my high-powered laptop to get this done, just in case you were wondering!)
As an ex-acer owner, if your acer is anything like mine was, I wouldn't try to download minecraft on it. I downloaded a Sims game on it, and it literally killed it. I have no idea why, but the thing couldn't handle it.
I dislike Acers in general. They don't work correctly, and no matter how many times they get "fixed", they're still just as bad. If you really want him to play (and not risk the Acer), buy him something more substantial. But, that's just my experience with Acers.
On Minecraft's website (minecraft.net) you can download the demo version. That laptop will probably run Minecraft, but it will have a very hard time doing so. Minecraft mainly uses the CPU, not the graphics, although Intel graphic cards will often mess with Minecraft - or any other game. To run it on that laptop, I recommend that you go into the options from the start menu screen (you can get to them from the pause screen, but you might have trouble due to your laptop's power - or lack of power) and turn the view distance to tiny, the graphics to fast, and smooth lighting off.
While I don't have an Acer bias like some responders, I will echo what others have said about the specs of that laptop not being good enough to run the pc version. I recommend you go the demo route as was suggested above just to confirm this.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
