I've looked all around and havent found a similar problem reported.
I've had the problem from Day 1 (This is day 2 btw)
No mods or anything
The game freezes/locks up my computer when I am outside in the game world. When I quit and log back in, I have a few seconds before it freezes again. I spent half an hour digging underground with no problem, but when I came up to hunt..... BAM! frozen.
Tried a Creative map and flew around just fine for a bit, but when I got close to the ground it froze. Seems hilly areas are the main spots....or cows maybe....
Fullscreen or not, still happens
I play offline, and do not have access to internet easily. I'd like to try non internet options first if possible...
Heres what I've tried:
Lowered rendering distance to Tiny
smooth lighting off
Graphics Fast
Pretty much minimal on everything I could
Java (as listed in control panel) is: Java(TM) 6 Update 26
It is the only java installed (I deleted another that was Update 20 i think..)
My computer has 64-bit operating System (yet Minecraft tells me I have 32 bit installation when I set distance to "far"
The only thing I havent tried yet is updating Java (or reinstalling both MC and Java as 64bit)
Any Ideas that don't involved internet that may fix the problem?
I recommend that you try switching to Java 64bit. You might also try updating lwjgl if you haven't before. How much RAM do you have on your system? Are your graphics drivers up to date?

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
