I bought the game back in Nov. 2011 and played a lot of single player mode hours, then stopped for quite a while. I'm not sure what beta version I had back then, but it was the plain old vanilla one, bought straight from Mojang (no mods, no texture packs, no creative mode).
I heard the retail version 1.5 came out recently, so I decided to brush off the old save file and experience all the new goodies. The old map seemed to update fine and all my old constructs were still there.
However, I noticed that the biomes don't seem to be identified correctly. When pressing F3, it shows that I'm in a plains biome when clearly in the desert, in the taiga when in extreme hills, swamp when in plains, etc... It wouldn't be that much of a big deal, except when hunting below for biome specific treasure (ie. emeralds).
I looked around to find an answer, but I'm a bit of a noob with all this so I might have missed something. Can anyone tell me if there's a way to "re-update" the map without loosing anything, or if there's something else I can do to fix this?
If you don't have any mods installed currently click the options button under the login button and click the force update button that should fix up the problem.
i think this is due to the fact your playing on an old world, the biomes changed in 1.2.5 (or around then i think) so the map you are using had been generated using the old system, but now when you look at the f3 data its using the latest information, thus your getting a mismatch. i hope that made sense

I tried this and no luck, the biomes are still not identified correctly.

That makes sense. I explored my map quite thoroughly before the update and I remember the biomes to be exactly the same as they look now, after the update. But if they were correctly identified before, shouldn't they have changed textures after the update to match the new names?
I thought the areas that I explored before 1.5 should have changed appearance to match the new ids. Am I wrong? For example, most of the jungles that I explored before now look correct, but not all.
Strangely, if I explore further than I had before the update, the biomes begin to be more consistently identified, although I still encounter the occasional hill biome named plains, or plains named swamps.
Apart from reloading a new map, which I'd like to avoid, is there any way to update this one "better"? I'm worried that because of these incorrect identifications, I'm not going to get the new spawns; ie. no emeralds in extreme hills, no dungeons, or any of the newer changes to come...

Thank you very much.
