Hey all. I just started a single player hardcore server, and one habit of mine is to get really really far from where I spawned before establishing anything, and I always prefer to go in the -X -Z direction. In this case, that meant sailing across the ocean.
It took forever, partially due to me having set the server to "large biomes", but I finally found what I was looking for. Better, in fact. I found an island about 100 blocks long and 50 blocks wide, with one single tree, and very large mountains that I quickly came to realize was an Extreme Hills Edge biome. Yup, I found an Extreme Hills island. And it is very, very far from the mainland, being at about X: -1700 Z: -1700 (well over a thousand blocks from the mainland).
However, from about the midway point of my ocean voyage I noticed that I was starting to get ridiculous lag, and at one point the server completely crashed (every time I tried to log in I would simply fall through the world). I almost deleted the server at this point, but on my final attempt to log in it worked, so I kept going.
Upon reaching the island, I immediately got to work with the supplies I brought with me. I planted all my sugar cane and my saplings, I started leveling off ground for my house, etc. But I was still getting this ridiculous lag, so I decided to log back out and back in.
Upon doing this, I logged back in to find myself falling through the world. You can imagine that I got concerned. However, on the first attempt the world reappeared with me about 50 blocks underground. Okay, it happens sometimes, not the weirdest thing ever.
Now, this is where it gets weird. Upon reaching the surface, I found everything... gone. Well, not gone, undone. All my sugar cane was gone, all my trees were gone, the land had un-leveled itself, the lone tree that I cut down was back.
I have since tried to log in 4 times, and I have cut down the same tree 4 times. The weird thing is, I keep everything I get. The land just resets. Everything I do gets undone upon logging in. Which is why I have nicknamed this place "Groundhog Island".
Can anybody please tell me what is going on and/or help me fix it? I would really like to get my sugar cane back, if that is possible.
This sounds like a corrupted chunk. I've had a few problems with these before. You can get a program called MCedit to repair it. If you want you can upload it and I can fix it.
