Download the file above. Head to your .minecraft directory, of which varies from operating system to operating system.
Windows 7/8: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft Windows Vista/XP: C:\Documents and Settings\*your username*\Application Data\.minecraft Linux: /home/Your Username/.minecraft Mac OS/X: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
Go into the bin folder. Make a backup of the minecraft.jar that is already there. Then, replace it with the one you just downloaded above. Run the game, and if prompt to update, select no. Do not force update either, doing either will revert it back to 1.5.1
I am having this problem as well and when I download the different minecraft.zip and replace it with my minecraft.jar (version 1.5.1) and start my minecraft it doesn't load! :'(
