I'm having an issue connecting to the Minecraft servers. I try to log in from the vanilla launcher: "Can't Connect to Minecraft.net". Try to log in from the FTB launcher: "Login failed" and gives me the Mojang support url. And I can't play FTB at all because I got rid of all my files. Go me. :/
I noticed the issue after I installed Kaspersky Antivirus 2013 a couple weeks ago, and haven't been able to log in since. I've tried adding java to the exceptions list, but I have no idea how. The way the Kaspersky team worded their exceptions instructions makes no sense to me.
If anybody could please help me, I'd love you forever. I really need to log in. No maintenance going on, no outages, nothing. I've already checked. I'd really like to update my minecraft to 1.5.1, and play some FTB while I'm at it. I'll list my computer specs below.
Computer Specs
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit RAM: 8 GB Java version: 7 Update 17 (both 32 and 64 bit versions) Antivirus program: Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2013 Firewall: Running through antivirus program Internet connection: Broadband connection, hardwire (through router)
As a quick sidenote, I have checked the Mojang support center and have tried as much as I can. As I said, I don't know how to add exceptions and I have tried everything else. I don't have another computer to try to see if it's my antivirus actually doing it because the only other computer I have access to in the house has the same antivirus program on it.
So we know it's the antivirus causing the problem, can you deactivate it, or tun the firewall off temporarily and then try again?
I killed the entire program, and logged in as normal. I don't have any idea how to add minecraft and/or java to my exceptions list though. The dialogue there makes no sense to me whatsoever. Do you have any ideas on how to get some help? I tried Kaspersky's support website, and yet again, it still makes no sense.
Well, I don't have much of a choice to keep it. I have nothing to replace it with. Anyways, I can't find a solution in all of that mess. Can you possibly show me what you used? If not, that's okay, but I would prefer to not have to stop protection every time I want to log in to minecraft. I keep my browser open all the time with social websites and youtube, and possibly the forums when I need help with a mod or a map or something.
I recommend uninstalling it and getting Avast! or some other good anti virus. Did you pay for KIS? If so, check if there is a way to make your firewall pop up like crazy, so when you open Minecraft then you can click allow.
Again, I recommend you uninstall it and get something a little better and minecraft compatible.
Yes, actually, I did pay for it. I have to give it credit, it did save my computer from downloading a trojan a couple weeks ago, not long after this issue started. I might be able to fiddle with the configuration to see if I can make it give me a dialogue to allow me to log in. Otherwise, I'll just deal with having to temporarily stop protection to log in, not too much of a big deal to do really since I allowed the gadget to stay on my desktop. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
Hi, If you're going to do that then trying the steps in this link might be of use. I have no idea If it will work as I do not own KIS.
Well, apparently it's for a previous version of the same program where the interface was different, but I still navigated to it easily. But I don't entirely know what to add an exception rule to. Minecraft itself, or Java? And what .exe file associated with Java? Also, if it is Java, since I have both x86 and x64 versions, which one or both?

Minecraft automatically uses the x64 version if it exists. So that one.

Which file do I need to add though, I found several .exe files when I looked in the bin folder.

Retired Staffjava.exe and javaw.exe
Well, it doesn't work. Actually, now my vanilla launcher shows html instead of changelogs and other stuff Mojang decides to put there as well.
