The title is actually false, I am below a noob.... I have never actually played more than the trial. However, I have played on Xbox since it came out.
Here's the deal. I have been watching this guy's, XRPMX13's, Youtube videos. He has like Hunger Games, and Cool Crafting stuff, etc; I really enjoy his stuff and it makes me want to buy the PC version so flippin bad. So I fully intend to, but I have a few concerns that I will list below in an easy to answer manner.
Thanks!
(forgive me if I state anything completely false, see title)
1. I read a few of the comments for the first time on one of his videos and people said it costs like $80 to play on his "Server." Is that true?
2. Is the only way to fully enjoy the game to play on servers?
3. Does every server charge?
4. What can you do without servers?
5. Can I do cool things like the Hunger Games and puzzle maps without paying extra?
6. I guess the biggest one, what makes this so much better than Xbox (not being a wise-guy). From what I have played the controls on Xbox are a lot easier. So, I guess, what about the PC is going to keep me off Xbox Minecraft? (also is Minecraft compatible with gamepads?)
Thanks all, feel free to expand on anything and even answer questions you think I need to know but didn't ask.
1. Don't go to servers you find in YouTube comments. Ever.
2. Minecraft is fun in both singleplayer and multiplayer.
3. Very few servers charge. The best ones are free.
4. Singlepllayer includes everything that multiplayer has, except other people. Mods are also fun, both in singleplayer and multiplayer.
5. There are servers that provide all kinds of gameplay types.
6. The controls on the PC are a lot better. The PC version is a lot more fleshed out; the Xbox version is still lacking a lot of features. Multiplayer on PC is a lot better because it is not split screen, and you meet a lot of new people. It is not directly compatable with game pads, but there are programs that will allow you to bind keyboard keys to buttons on a game pad.
Is it hard to utilize Minecraft servers and stuff? Like just using them?
Is it hard to open your own or be a mod whatever that would mean in terms of Minecraft?
Like Xbox is simple, but PC seems like it gets complicated. Will it be easy to figure that all out as I go?
Server stuff in PC is really complicated... first you better know how to portforward. there are several tutorials on that around here. just too lazy to actualy link you to one.
As for playing on them all you really have to do is follow the rules. I know a few good servers

I did a quick Google search and found this program for using an Xbox controller:

Also, here is a server suggestion:

Retired StaffYou can set up your own server and place a whitelist. Or you can do a LAN game if your friend is on the same network as you.
