So here's the problem: When I open a world to LAN on my Windows 7 computer, it doesn't show on my brother's Mac OSX. The ip it opens on is 0.0.0.0:xxxxx. We tried direct connect with that AND my actual Ip address.
I have had the same problem, if you have not done this before, here are some steps that i used to fix it.
1. click the windows icon in the bottom left.
2. search cmd in it and it should open a console window.
3.in this window, type "ipconfig" (no quotation marks)
4. it will load up a bunch of stuff, find this line somewhere in that crap. IPv4 Adress * * * * * * * * : 192.122.0.32 <-- this is an example of the numbers you will find.
5. remember those numbers.
6 open to LAN.
7. make your brother direct connect to that ip you remembered plus port that open to LAN is on
EXAMPLE: your brother would enter something like this in. 192.122.0.32:12345

that should work, if not let me know.
I did that, the ipv4 thing was 10.0.2.10. When he did direct connect, it just timed out D=
