Hello, I was looking for some help with trying to get LAN to work. It has been working for me just fine to connect between my laptop and my boyfriend's laptop. We both updated to 1.5.1 today and now it is not working. All firewalls are set to allow Java through and nothing has changed with either of our computers except for the switch from 1.4.7 to. 1.5.1. We are using a wireless connection with a belkin router, both of our IP address are 192.168.2.X. When we open to LAN the IP address it shows is 0.0.0.0.XXXXX but it has always shown us an IP address like that when it was working correctly as well. When I go to play multiplayer it just keeps scanning for networks. I've tried to manually enter the IP address, using both the IP with the zeros and the real IP of the computer I'm trying to connect with, but the connection always fails. Neither of us currently use any mods.
I just discovered a fix, not sure if it will work for you, but worth a try. My boyfriend was the one originally hosting; he emailed the world save file to me so I could host it over LAN, and miraculously, it worked. Make sure you copy-paste it into your "saves" file, of course. Also, my IP is in the 192.168.1.X range, but I'm also getting the 0.0.0.0.X
google on how to set static IPs. therefore in the future, it will always be the same IP address. the ip address will, under most circumstances, always be the IP of the "host".

Static IPs don't really matter for LAN.
It mostly shows up in servers or tells you the correct IP address.

I know it's possible to set a LAN IP address for each machine on the network.
Our router uses 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2; I have my machine set to 10.0.0.10.
We have another machine running Windows 7 on our network which has not had a static IP set; and I'm able to detect a LAN game on that machine but not connect. The other machine does not detect a LAN game on my machine however.
Yup, IP address is 192.168.2.X, that's what they've always been on this network. We're both using Windows 7. This issue is super frustrating because we both actually work at a place where we do computer and network tech support, and we can't get it to work XD
Tried using the e-mail trick and it did not work. We have tried hosting it from both computers, also.
This isactually a really simple fix! If when youpost the LAN world, you see 0.0.0.0:xxxxx , then you must go into your internet settings and find your internet IP... On the computer that you want to join the LAN world, click direct connect, replace the 0.0.0.0 with your internet IP, then put the :xxxxx from posting the LAN world afterwards. IT will connect you directly to the LAN world!!! Hopefully this is fixed in a 1.5.2 update, but until then happy crafting!
Yup thanks for the comments... I've been having the same issue since 1.5.1... Got my IP, entered game, opened to LAN and then my little bro could join in... brilliant... thanks all for the help
I've been trying to figure out how to play a game on LAN with my friend. We are both connected to the same network, and when I open it to LAN, it shows up under her local games, but always times out when she tries to enter. It says on my game that a game has been opened on IP address 0.0.0.0.:xxxx, or something along those lines. I've tried all the solutions found in this thread, but none of them have worked. Any other suggestions?
Yes we are having the same problems, we played it once with mods and it worked. I can detect my friend's LAN worlds but he cannot detect mine and therefore must enter the IP address shown when I open to LAN or do /publish. He types it in, it gets to "Logging In," and then goes to something about the java socket timing out.
On the other hand, when I try to join his LAN worlds, I detect them, but it stays on "Connecting To Server," the whole time. Maybe it's a problem with IPs, maybe it's a problem with Internet, maybe it's a problem with Minecraft, but, I seriously have no idea.

For some reason, this is not working for us. Considering the fact that our IPs are both 10.0.0.33:xxxxx, I guess that might be the problem, as there is a difference in base IP.
I'm also unable to connect directly over LAN anymore. I have two PCs running Windows7 in a LAN. I open one of the games up to LAN, it shows the 0.0.0.0 IP and a port number on the host game, then I go on to the client machine and on play multiplayer it actually shows me the correct IP/Port on the menu:
But it still doesn't connect...the result times out.
I tried without any firewalls with same result. It obviously sees the host and can connect to the computer. I use to be able to connect directly on prior versions of Minecraft with no problem but I also upgraded from XP to Win 7...so not sure if that has something to do with it. Any help would be appreciated!

But if I try to join, it will show Connecting to server for half a minute and then "Failed to connect to the server, Connection timed out: connect".
I tried without any firewalls with same result. It obviously the client minecraft sees the host, otherwise it wouldn't show it on the list of servers. Not sure if this is a bug or if it's a problem with my network settings. Router is ok because it didn't change at all and I can ping my other pc. Any help would be appreciated!
I have the exact same problem as masteriti "it will show Connecting to server for half a minute and then "Failed to connect"
or timed out. I put my minecraft.jar on the other cpu and turned off all fire walls and antivirus software and have the same
version of java on both as well. I cant believe they have this kind of problem at this stage. :/

I love your face. I wanna kiss it, because your face holds the brain that typed those words out and stuff. That worked for me and I am very glad and would like to take you out for dinner.

Retired StaffThe showing of 0.0.0.0 is a bug of which Mojang cannot fix, sadly :/

When we start a LAN game shows the IP as 0.0.0.0:50766 instead of the correct IP address.
