"Done Loading" stop after replacing .jar

Why am I stuck at the "done loading" screen after replacing my Minecraft 1.5 with a Minecraft 1.4.7 .jar?

I can delete everything in my file, but that brings me back to the Minecraft 1.5.

Tried this again, it appears that my main problem is deciding when to put the .jar in.

was the 1.4.7 jar you have an old backup from your computer, or downloaded from somewhere?
had you applied any mods to it before backing it up?

Downloaded from somewhere, an assets.minecraft.net link that prompts me to download.

No mods.

Instead of deleting the files, do a force update, then replace the jar.

To do so, start Minecraft, press 'Options' (above the 'Login' button), Press 'Force update!', then press 'Done', and login to Minecraft. See http://img.mcf.li/force_update.png for visual instructions.
