I have an issue where every 6 seconds, the game freezes for a half a second, then unfreezes. This happens with my normal settings, on maxed settings, and with settings turned all the way down. It doesn't matter whether I'm above ground, below ground, or in the nether. It even happens on the main menu screen.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Minecraft and Java multiple times, but it doesn't change this recurring error. I'm hoping someone can help.

-Windows XP
-AMD 64 X2 2.2 Ghz Dual Core Processor
-4 Gb RAM
-Nvidia GeForce 550 Ti 1Gb Graphics Card
-Java Version 7 Update 17
-Minecraft Version 1.5

do not fear i have the same problem as well. it's a little glitch that is gonna be fixed in the 1.5.1 update so just bear with it. i feel your pain brotha

So, there's nothing I can do in the meantime? That's disappointing. Do they know what's causing the issue?

Well the new update didn't help, I still have the exact same problem.

I tried the Magic Launcher but that didn't work either. Are there any fixes for this?

3) Change the 512 to 384.

I changed memory from 512 to 384, but continue to have this same issue.

I haven't, but I checked to make sure. It's definitely still at the factory settings, no overclock.

Updated Java, then tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. No change.

Im having the same issue, and im on 1.6.2, every 6 seconds it freezes and on a good day it actually responds.
this sucks because when ever i hit a mob, player, or just plain air it freezes aswell as the 6 seconds problem, and
i love survival games and mob arena stuff.i've tried magic launcher, with and without mods, and the mods i used
were only little things (rei minimap, optifine and damage indicators) and my game closed. with the new 1.6 launcher
it still lag/freezes, and with the resource pack i use the only other thing (besides the defults) that is animated
is tallgrass. the mods i use now without magic launcher are BWG4, Steve mod, TMI, dmg indicators and rei minimap.
please, someone help. by the way i'm in windows vista, Rippahjack.

Those lag spikes sound like the CPU is downclocking/slow. Make sure your system isn't overheating. And also, Minecraft is more CPU dependent than GPU, so if you have a garbage CPU and a beast GPU, Minecraft is going to take a serious hit.
