So I upgraded to 1.5 today and when I first spawned in a world I saw that I was only hitting 25 fps maximum. I turned off fancy graphics AND smooth lighting in order to get 60 fps (with v-sync on, without it I'm getting up to 150 in a normal world.) Why does it lag so much when I turn either of these settings on? And is there anything I can do about it? Thanks.
more of a software thing... were you in a forest/jungle biome? the leaves can get laggy in fancy.

1.5 has a new lighting system and the coding has issues. You might notice that the blocks (in dark areas) have white lines on them, it's not just me, I was watching youtube and people mentioned it as well. I have a 7950, and I get around 200FPS sometimes, that drops to 30FPS or worse at times as well. Minecraft is really just not smooth to play, I'm putting it down for a bit.
An issue with 1.5 is precisely that, a software issue. Anyway OP, minecraft 1.5 has some issues with the lighting, and they will probably get ironed out in a sub patch

Yes, I understand that, but aceattwister was saying that it was probably just a regular issue that happens in all versions. YOu know, the standard "It always lags in a forest."

It doesn't matter where I am. If I turn on fancy graphics or smooth lighting I go down to 20 fps and stay there. (Never happened before 1.5)
Minecraft needs an optimization update lol.
Oh, okay. I thought it was just me XD
