Hi, I run a GTX 570 GPU. Ever since about the first of march 2013 I've had this problem where I play the game for 5-10 minutes and then my screen goes black for about second. When the screen comes back on, I get no errors that say "video drivers crashed and recovered," no error messages at all. Rarely I get a OpenGL error 7 when this happens.
Minecraft stays open but is unresponsive and must be force killed. Also, any web pages I have open in browsers turn all black, as though someone wrote an empty html file with only body bgcolor=#000. This is very frustrating and makes mc unplayable for me. Recently the crash has started happening even within the first minute of gameplay. However I can stay on the title screen (singleplayer multiplayer options etc) indefinitely with no crash.
I have the latest nVidia drivers, and the latest Java in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
Please help. I'm concerned for my hardware.
Edit: This crash also happens when I play the in-browser version.
I was playing with the singleplayercommands Mod enabled. I have since deleted my .Minecraft folder and backed up my saves. However, the file I was playing on was corrupt and got lost in the backup.
I made a new world with no mods enabled. It worked fine for about an hour... the only problem I saw was, when placing a Painting, the painting would show up on the wall and then instantly disappear. I could place as many paintings in the same space as I wanted to, but they all disappeared.
The crash has been the same as the ones described in the original post.
SYMPTOMS DURING CRASH:
1. Screen goes black, like it does when you change its resolution.
2. During this time, a fan or two in my case sounds like it is slowing down (not receiving power). Not sure which fan(s) as the crash is instant and its hard to get there in time.
3. Screen comes back on and fans return to normal speed.
4. No error messages on the screen, but Minecraft freezes and must be restarted via task manager.
5. Any web pages I have open are black. Any NEW pages I open are black, until I restart the browser.
The funny thing about the crash this time was, when the screen came back on, minecraft was frozen (as usual) but ALL OF THE PAINTINGS I HAD TRIED TO PLACE WERE VISIBLE and looked corrupted, like the textures were being placed improperly.
I monitor temps with speedfan. Nothing is overheating.
Driver version is nVidia 314.07WHQL, nonbeta.
I will try scanning my hard drive next. Memtest is scheduled for an overnight run tonight. Thanks for the quick response!
