So I have no sound in my client... AGAIN. I dunno how many different times it's happened. I have no sound during the menu, and some effects wont sound off while in-game. I remember this happened a while back after some new update and just stopped playing because of the frustration Mojang always brings me with their faulty Java programming. Why oh God did they do this game in Java. It's such a shame... such an enjoyable game only to have to deal with annoying crap like this after each update.

Well, the truth is, it's coming out into the open that while Mojang had a great idea, they have the programming skill of 20 year old college students who are still learning. Yes it's java, BUT it doesn't have to be this bad. I agree they should have written it in something else, but hey, they're one dimensional programmers.
Even the Cryengine 3 minecraft mod runs better than this:P
I wouldn't mind/complain if they developed a unique engine just for Minecraft and ditched this whole Java. It's not like they don't have the dough... now- the skill? That's an entirely different topic haha.
did you do a force update of the sounds by pressing F3 + S (i think thats the key combo).
also have you tried updating the LWJGL files? http://www.minecraft...o-update-lwjgl/

Tried this and it seems to have worked, unsure since I had minecraft open while I did it but it works now so I'm not complaining.
I'm done with this game. When there's full mod support and people aren't doing Mojang's damn job optimizing this damn game then maybe I'll come back. Screw this.
I don't even have security in this computer, but that's a nice hypothesis.
No antivirus? Also what he meant by security can also relate to things like windows user permissions. I've seen people resolve odd issues by doing something as simple as right clicking the launcher and tell it to run as administrator.
Nope, only I use this PC and I've never been dumb enough to get my PC in trouble due to viruses, but nah I'm currently running on Windows XP. Thank you for the suggestion though and not "talking out your butt" like some other posters.

And as I said, Java is messy, choppy, and is bad for your computer. It also crashes way more than it should.

It happens to you again and again, because it is still the same computer with the same basic problem.
Always love the folks who claim it's a mysterious known bug, or an inherent problem with Java.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
