Something about 1.5 is making my minecraft freeze. My client is completely vanilla. I'm getting really low FPS's in one of my main worlds(a survival world with a random seed), and it will completely freeze after a few seconds in my creative world, which has lots of redstone contraptions and random buildings. It was working beautifully before 1.5. I've got the latest Java and graphics card driver. Any ideas? Thanks for reading.

I see. Well, I'd recommend getting Optifine like Syfaro said to reduce lag.
But, make sure, do you have any programs maybe slowing down the game? Java is pretty choppy, and it can be very laggy and/or glitchy at times. You do need to try and put all settings down (Video Settings) And see if that helps. And if you have huge redstone contraptions, it may be the issue, or you just got struck with bad luck. The terrain might have been too much to load, like a jungle, and possibly more generated structures. Try downloading Optifine, putting everything to low, and report back so we can help.
A little update: Found an old jar of 1.4.7, loaded it up, and started playing Minecraft again. Well, it's started freezing again. In that jar, I do have optifine and lots of my settings are dumbed down. This is very weird considering it never happened to me before the 1.5 update, which leads me to believe that it's a problem with my computer rather than my minecraft. Anyone have any idea where to start?
EDIT: It seems that doing a clean install has fixed this issue, but I haven't tested it too much as of yet.

Glad that it worked out, hopefully.
