First off, my hats off to you guys that play this because I am sooo confused by the technical aspects of this game. Mods, texture packs, mcpatcher and all the other stuff blows my mind. And I'm not a even a newbie.
Anyway, my ten-year-old son installed the new Redstone update and as soon as he installed it, his John Smith texture pack stopped working. I tried deleting it and reinstalling (yeah, that was fun) and patching it using MCpatcher. It still isn't working.
Is this just me or has it stopped working for others? Anything I can do? If not, maybe another texture pack can be recommended. I can do texture packs. Mods make me curse and pull my hair out. Thanks.

The Redstone Update changes the way that texture packs are done. Therefore, any texture pack before 1.5 will not work with it. What you have to do is search for the pack specifically for the 1.5 update, follow the same routine, and voila! Hope that helps.
Supposedly all the terrain tiles are as separate files, so if you can't find a new one you'd have to figure out what to name, separate them, and zip it back up again.
Make sure you're using the latest version of MCpatcher for 1.5 (there are 2 separate versions now, one for 1.4x and lower and one for 1.5) The new version can convert texture packs to 1.5 format.

Ok, that makes sense. But the texture pack page says "compatibility with Minecraft 1.5". Should I be looking for compatibility with Minecraft 1.5/Redstone update? If that's the case-good, I can fix it in a few days. I hope it's before spring break is over. Thanks for answering.

TimmyTapeDispenser WINNER!!! WINNER!!! Thanks for pointing out the convert texture pack part!!! I already had the latest MCPatcher so I decided to check out the converter. I hit that and it converted it for me and renamed it. I went to the options area and choose that as my texture pack. Done! That was after messing with it for over 3 hours. Ugh. I'm so glad I posted this problem. Thanks so much.
