Since version 1.5 has been released, I have noticed a lot of stuttering while playing the game. My FPS in the game reports about 80 but the game noticably stutters. This only started happening since the 1.5 update. I also noticed that when I turn smooth lighting completely off, the stuttering magically disapears. I have no mods or fancy texture packs so I am not sure what is causing this. Has anyone else noticed this and found a way to fix it?
This. Change smooth lighting to 'minimum' if you don't like the newer one.
Must disagree here. This runs 25-50 FPS on max with large lag spikes and 40-60 with spikes on min. 1.4.7 ran at a solid 190-200 fps. Setting it to min does not have the same effect as running 1.4.7
And as you can see the lighting issues even on max are not fixed
I have similar issues, my FPS tanks whenever I use any piston, for the duration that it's moving. Disabling lighting effects completely negates the issue. On both Max and Min, my FPS tanks.
You should not have to use a mod to make a game run correctly It ran fine before the update. Granted it did have the lighting issues but at least it was playable.
Reporting here also as this is the first result when googling about it.
The new lighting engine destroyed the game performance in terms of stuttering (even while having 200 FPS). This happens regardless of which smooth lighting mode is used. It has to be turned completely off to resolve it; which results in the game looking much poorer.
I'll try the Optifine 1.5 preview, hopefully it helps, though I don't like using pre-beta stuff. Will report back if so.
Edit: It actually does fix it, on both minimum and maximum settings; color me surprised. Thanks for the tip, Mr.OMG.
Hope the devs get a fix implemented soon for the people that don't know about Optifine.
